Commissioned to
commemorate the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Japanese Ground
Self-Defense Force Central Band, this work was premiered at the Tokyo
Metropolitan Hall with Col. Toyokazu Nonaka conducting. This 45 minute
work scored for a very large band, is in four movements: I. Eulogy, II.
Scherzo, III. Reverie and IV. Jubilation. Subtitled "Phoenix", the work
is intended to portray in spirit the resurgence of Japan since World War
II.
