This SARABANDA
uses tonality and chord sequences common to the late Baroque period. The

Written in 1981,
Barnes' SECOND SYMPHONY was awarded the Neil A. Kjos Memorial Award for
Outstanding Band Literature in 1984. Commercially recorded by the Tokyo
Kosei Wind Orchestra and the Osaka Municipal Symphonic Band, it has long
been a mainstay in the Southern Music Company rental catalog. In it's
own way, it is just as dramatic and challenging as Barnes' THIRD
SYMPHONY.

The work incorporates non-traditional harmonies and elements of

Yukiko Nishimura has
written a very accessible and charming ballade based on an old Japanees
tale of the characters Altair and Vega, lovers on opposite sides of the
Milky Way whom may meet only once a year aboard the STAR SHIP.
