Sousa
wrote this "Suite of Scenarios for Cinematographers" during the infancy
of the motion picture industry. "The Serenaders" showcased the many
virtuosi in the Sousa Band; "The Crafty Villain and the Timid Maid" uses
oboe and bassoon soli to represent the title characters; and "Balance
All and Swing Partners" illustrates the exuberance of townspeople
dancing the newest ragtime steps on the village green.
