    PANTHER FIRE was commissioned by Miriam Muniz-Schwab and the 1995-96 Pflugerville Panther Band. It is an energetic work which features the horns in a lyrical middle section. This stunning work received first prize in the 1996 National Band Association Grade III/IV Composition Contest.

  • PROMENADE, Stanhope, Gr. 3 (S823) 65.00 Stanhope's PROMENADE is his reflection and endeavor to capture a piece with similar charm to that of the Norwegian March "Valdres." The title was chosen because of the rather French flavor of the style.
  • PROROCKRIEV, Bailey, Gr. 3 (S840) in prep. A tribute piece to Sergei Prokofiev, PROROCKRIEV mixes this 20th century master's harmonic and rhythmic sensibilities with a gentle rock beat. Nice solo work is present for your oboist but, is cued throughout in absence of the instrument.

  • SARABANDA NO. 1, Allen, Gr. 5 (S806) 75.00 This SARABANDA uses tonality and chord sequences common to the late Baroque period. The powerful climax comes from swirling woodwind lines and mass sounds from the brass, subsiding to the sound of low brass and timpani.

  • SECOND SYMPHONY, Barnes, Gr. 3 (S574) 195.00
    Written in 1981, Barnes' SECOND SYMPHONY was awarded the Neil A. Kjos Memorial Award for Outstanding Band Literature in 1984. Commercially recorded by the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra and the Osaka Municipal Symphonic Band, it has long been a mainstay in the Southern Music Company rental catalog. In it's own way, it is just as dramatic and challenging as Barnes' THIRD SYMPHONY.

    This selection is one of three intermezzi, completed in 1892 and published as Op. 117. The tender folk-like lullaby was so popular that the Scottish words “Sleep gently my child, sleep gently and fair” were adapted to the melody.

  • STAR SHIP, Nishimura, Gr. 3 (S830) in prep. Yukiko Nishimura has written a very accessible and charming ballade based on an old Japanees tale of the characters Altair and Vega, lovers on opposite sides of the Milky Way whom may meet only once a year aboard the STAR SHIP.
