Jacques Offenbach (1819-1880) is known as the leading
composer of the 19th century French comic operas, including the satirical
operetta on the Greek myth Helen of Troy, "La Belle Helene". Jim Mahaffey's
arrangement of the overture is ideal for younger bands, requiring only
standard instrumentation in limited range and remaining in E flat concert
throughout.
