MUSIC READING UNLIMITED
Dr. Vivian Munn
 |
This book is designed to teach advanced music reading concepts to the
high school choir. The exercises are intended to function as short pedagogical studies
which carefully aid in the training of the ear, eye, and mind. The melodies and harmonies
are conventional and traditional so that a moderate degree of success can be achieved on
the first reading. However, most of the exercises are designed to function as music
reading studies, rather than sight-reading drills. Explain, study, and practice them
several times (if necessary) for complete understanding and mastery. Once students have
mastered the concepts, they are ready to transfer that learning to the actual reading of
choral music. |

| SONGS FOR SIGHT SINGING Compiled by Mary Henry & Marilyn
Jones
Consulting Editor Dr. Ruth Whitlock
 |
SONGS FOR SIGHT SINGING provides a collection of literature for use in
the choral classroom. Each selection was composed according to criteria designed by Texas
secondary choral directors and commissioned by the Texas University Interscholastic League
for use in its annual sight singing contest. These graded materials were created
specifically for young musicians by recognized composers and comprise a valuable resource
as they contain many of the problems encountered in sight singing. This collection can be
used effectively as a supplement to the daily instructional sight singing program after an
approved system of pitch reference (moveable "do", fixed "do" or
numbers) and a rhythm system are established within the choral curriculum. |
